| Voice of Democracy (VOD) Program |
The VOD scholarship contest is an annual nationwide audio essay
competition designed to give 9th-12th grade high school students,
ages 15-19, the opportunity to voice their opinion on their
responsibility to our country. Each student records their essay on
a cassette tape or CD, 3-5 minutes in length, on an annual patriotic
theme. This program has existed for over 60 years. The Lake
Minnetonka Post has sponsored this program for more than 15
years, directed by Duane Bjerke. Winners are selected at the
Post, District, and State levels. Each State winner receives an
all-expense-paid trip to the National finals held at Washington, DC
in March. Total scholarship awards for winners exceed $2,000,000.
Scheduled dates for the VOD program are:
Student Entry - Midnight, November 1, 2009
Complete Post Judging - November 15, 2009
Complete District Judging - December 6, 2009
Complete State Judging - January 7, 2010
State winner to National - January 15, 2010
